Built Around the Existing Structure
The Tile Is Only as Reliable as What Sits Behind It
Many Falmouth homes were built decades before current deflection standards existed. A shower in one of these houses sits on a floor that was never designed to hold tile without flexing, and that movement is the most common reason tile and grout fail.
Floor movement stresses the bond layer, opens grout joints, and eventually breaks the waterproofing seal. By the time water is visible, damage has usually been building for months.
Tile of America inspects subfloor deflection and framing before quoting any shower project in Falmouth. We build on Schluter Kerdi-Board panels, which are waterproof through the board itself, and add a liquid membrane as a second independent layer beneath the Kerdi system.
That preparation is completed before the first tile is ordered, not discovered mid-job when the schedule is already set.
The decisions made before the first tile is set determine whether the shower is still watertight in ten years.
